And so in conclusion, was the time, effort and expense for this work worthwhile? After 500 miles testing, the answer is a definitely "YES". End of. There is no question the 1Z e-TDi is a great choice for us.

I no longer use 1st gear - well I haven't yet. Even pushing a vehicle as heavy as the Gipsy along, the acceleration with the 1Z e-TDi is just incredible.

I understand there are easier conversions that can be done with the VW Type 3's (AAZ, 1Y and the m-TDi's for example) and I can't really comment on the benefits of those, but if the 1Z e-TDi can push a Gipsy along so easily - especially uphill - what more would you want?? The e-TDi is more environment friendly and more economical than all the rest too. Bonus.
